Brazil extremists declare loyalty to Islamic State in first public declaration in South America, weeks ahead of Olympics

group of extremists in Brazil has apparently declared loyalty to the Islamic State (Isil) less than three weeks before the country hosts the 2016 Olympics.
A channel called “Ansar al-Khilafah Brazil” on messaging app Telegram pledged allegiance to Isil leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to US-based SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors jihadi networks.
One message reportedly said: “If the French police can not stop attacks on its territory, training given to the Brazilian police will not do anything.”
It is believed to be the first public declaration from a group in South America.

Over the weekend, 22,000 troops arrived in Rio amid final preparations and training exercises.
"We will increase security with more reviews, metal detectors and identification checks to ensure the tranquillity of the Games,” said Raul Jungmann, defence minister.
“We have delegations at the highest risk, which will already have a special protection scheme.
“We have 22,850 soldiers from the navy, army and air force and are already offering reserve reinforcements for any eventuality."
